To anonymously use the Internet and ensure the confidentiality of your data on the network, it is worth using a proxy server. Fortunately, the Windows 8.1 operating system supports the ability to connect, so you need only a few minutes to properly configure the private proxy server.

Connecting a proxy server in Windows 8.1

To configure proxies on your operating system, follow these instructions:

  1. Press the key combination “Win + C” and go to “Options”.

  2. In the lower right corner of the screen, there will be an item “More PC settings”. Click on it.

  3. Go to the "Network" section.
  4. Go to the "Proxy".


  5. Toggle the toggle switch next to the "Use proxy server" to "On".
  6. Enter the IP address and port of your proxy server.
  7. If necessary, enter a list of sites that do not need a proxy server action. Separate them with a semicolon (";"). Your computer will be connected to these web resources directly.
  8. Click the save button to complete the settings.

Disabling proxy in Windows 8.1

To deactivate a previously connected proxy, follow this step-by-step instruction:

  1. Press the key combination “WIN + C”.
  2. A menu pops up on the right, in which you need to go to the "Options".


  3. Click on "More PC settings"

  5. Further in the "Proxy".


  6. Change the position of the toggle switch next to the "Use proxies" to "Off".

As you can see, the process of connecting and disconnecting a proxy is a matter of several minutes if you have already prepared the server data in advance. In the future, you can enable and disable the proxy server by adjusting the position of the toggle switch near the “Use proxy server” parameter. It is not even necessary to constantly erase and enter the IP address and port since the proxy will still not be active when the toggle switch is in the “Off” position.
