How to set up a proxy on Windows 10. Connecting and disconnecting

Setting up a proxy server on Windows 10 will be relevant if you need to hide your valid IP address and geolocation. A private server will help you solve these problems by acting as an intermediary between your computer and the sites you visit. Using a proxy is relevant both for simple web surfing and for solving complex tasks: launching automated software, using online services like Tooligram, parsing, etc.

If necessary, you can connect a mediation server not for all network connections, but for a separate browser. For example, you can configure proxies for Internet Explorer.

Proxy settings on Windows 10

To set the proxy server on Windows 10, follow this instruction:

  1. From the Windows 10 home screen (on the desktop), press the key combination “WIN + R”.
  2. In the lower-left corner you will see a window with the heading "Run." Enter the inscription “cpl” there and click “OK”.

  3. Go to the “Connections” tab and click on “LAN Settings”.

  4. Check the boxes next to “Use proxy server for your LAN” and “Bypass proxy server for local addresses.

  5. Enter the IP address and port of your proxy.

  6. Click Advanced.

  7. Check the box next to “One proxy server for all protocols.”

  8. Enter in the empty window those sites on which you do not need to use proxies separated by semicolons ";" (if there are any web resources).

  9. Click “OK” to complete the setup.
  10. Close the remaining windows by clicking on “OK”.

Disabling proxies in Windows 10

To disable a previously connected proxy in Windows 10, you need to go back to "Configuring LAN settings".

Follow the instructions:

  1. From the first screen of Windows 10 (desktop), press the key combination “Win + R”. You will see a special window in the lower-left corner of the screen with the heading “Run”.
  2. Enter the text “inetcpl.cpl” into this window and click “OK”.

  3. The system will redirect you to the "Internet Properties" section. 
  4. Go to the “Connections” tab, click “LAN Settings”.

  6. Uncheck the box next to "Use a proxy server for local connections."

  7. Click “OK” in all unclosed windows to save the changes.

Please note that when you unchecked the option “Use proxy server for local connections”, the address of the proxy entered earlier did not disappear. How to enable Windows 10 proxy? Just check back and the network connection from all browsers and programs will begin to go through this server again. If you no longer plan to use proxies on Windows 10, then you can erase the previously entered IP address and port.
