How to configure and use a proxy in SmartProxy
Setting up a proxy for your browser can be quick and simple when you use a specialized proxy extension. This approach is ideal for those who only need to use proxy IP addresses in a specific browser, rather than routing all their traffic through a proxy. The SmartProxy extension is a great option for this purpose, offering easy and efficient proxy management. With SmartProxy, you can configure your proxy settings once and then switch your IP address with just one click while browsing.
In the following step-by-step instructions, we'll explore how to use SmartProxy to enhance your browsing experience.
Step-by-step guide on how to set up a proxy in SmartProxy
SmartProxy is accessible in both the Chrome and Firefox extension stores. However, due to limitations in the Chrome extension API, proxy server authentication is no longer supported in Google Chrome. Therefore, we will focus on configuring private proxies in SmartProxy using the Mozilla Firefox browser.
- After installing SmartProxy, click on the extension's icon next to the search bar and select SmartProxy from the drop-down menu.
- In the menu that appears, choose “Settings”.
- On the new page, select the “Proxy Servers” tab from the left menu.
- Click on “Add Server”.
- Set a name for your proxy and enter the server information, including the IP-address and port. Select the protocol type from the drop-down list.
- If using private proxies with authorization, enter your username and password below. Click on the “Save” button.
- The new proxy should now appear in the general list.
- Click on the “Save Changes” button at the bottom to ensure the extension remembers the new proxy.
- Select “Add a new smart profile” from the side menu.
- Choose “Always On” and click “Next”.
- Give your profile a name for easy identification. From the drop-down list below, select the proxy you just configured.
- If necessary, define rules by specifying filters and lists of sites for which the proxy should always be used, or conversely, should not be used. Save your changes by clicking the appropriate button.
- Open a new tab in your browser and click on the SmartProxy extension icon. The newly configured proxy will be listed in the drop-down menu. Click on it to activate the proxy for your browsing session.
By following these steps, you can maintain anonymity online and manage your proxy usage flexibly, employing it only for sites where you need to bypass geo-restrictions or avoid IP address limitations.
