Setting up a proxy on Steam to change currency and region

Steam is a comprehensive platform for purchasing, distributing, and downloading games and applications. Sometimes, specific games may be unavailable due to regional restrictions. These limitations can often be bypassed by setting up a proxy, allowing users to change their region and currency settings.

Why use a proxy on Steam

Utilizing a proxy on Steam enables access to various features and new possibilities. Here are the main reasons for setting up proxy servers on Steam:

  • Access blocked content: some games and add-ons are exclusively available in specific countries. By changing your Steam account region through a proxy, you can bypass these geographical restrictions and access exclusive games.
  • Savings on purchases: prices on Steam can vary significantly depending on the user's country. Using a proxy to change your region may allow you to purchase games at more favorable prices.
  • Participation in regional events: Steam hosts various tournaments and events, some of which are limited to certain regions. By using a proxy, you can participate in these regional events.
  • Early access to games: occasionally, game companies offer early access to their games in specific regions. With a proxy, you can access these games ahead of their general release.

How to change the currency and region of the Steam store

To change the currency and region of the Steam store, you must use the browser version of the site and set up a proxy in your browser. Here's how you can do this using the Proxy Switcher & Manager extension, available for Chrome, Opera, and Firefox:

  1. Add the Proxy Switcher & Manager extension to your browser and open its settings. Select the “Manual Proxy” tab, then enter the IP address, and port, and select the connection protocol. After entering all the data, click the confirmation button as shown in the screenshot.

  2. If using a private proxy, the system will ask you to enter authorization data. Enter them and click “OK”.

  3. Open the Steam website and log into your account. Select any game from the store and add it to your cart. In the “Country” item, select the one that matches the configured proxy server.

  4. Follow through with the region change.

  5. The price of the games will now change to reflect the selected region.

This setup is now complete, and when the client is launched, the new region settings will apply.
